Harriers taper on final run before Marathon

RUNNING

Many of the Harriers who ran last Thursday’s event on May 31 took it easy before facing the starter again in one of the marathon carnival races on Sunday.

In the six kilometre run from the Liddiard Road Primary School talented junior Michael Tripodi finished ahead on handicap from Tom Irvine, followed by Cowwar’s Mike Jackson, Karen Graham and Tania Whitehead.

The fastest men were Tom Irvine, Kris Vallak and Edi Murat.

The quickest women were Tania Whitehead, Kay Frost and Angeline Diamente.

The four women fronted the start line again to run fast times in the Traralgon half marathon on Sunday.

Karen Graham was outright first woman, with Kay Frost first in her age group, and outright fifth.

Tania Whitehead was fourth in her age group and Angeline Diamente finished in the top of the field after running the Adelaide half-marathon the previous Sunday.

Veteran race walker Brian Glover from Portland arrived in town early and competed on the Thursday evening before completing his 19th Traralgon Marathon a few days later, wearing race bib number 19 to mark the occasion.
