The Mirboo North Football Netball Club will hold their third annual Indigenous round when they host Yarragon on Saturday in round 14 Mid Gippsland league action.
To mark the occasion, the Tigers’ senior footballers and A, B and C grade netballers will wear yellow and black uniforms designed by well-known Aboriginal artist Ronald Edwards.
Each year Edwards designs Mirboo North football jumpers and netball dresses that encompass Gippsland’s five Gunai Kurnai clans.
Traditional owners past and present will be recognised prior to the start of the A grade football and senior netball games when Edwards performs a formal smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country at 2pm.
After the completion of the Indigenous round games, meals will be available in the club’s social rooms and will be followed by the Tigers’ Wimbledon table tennis tournament.
On Saturday, July 28 Mirboo North’s footballers and netballers will compete in a second Indigenous round match when they travel to Willow Grove to play Hill End.
Both Hill End and Mirboo North will wear their specially-designed Indigenous uniforms.
