Round 16 review

In the match of the round it was Falcons in top position taking on second-placed Newborough/Yallourn and Falcons prevailed with a 4-2 win.

It wasn’t long before Falcons asserted their presence as they scored at seven minutes through Sam Amaira.

Falcons gained their second only a few minutes later to go to 2-0 when Isaac Abas got one past Damien Gilbert.

On the rebound Sam Amaira found Jesse Kennedy who pushed it passed the keeper for Falcons’ third goal just before half-time.

Falcons were in attacking mode after the break and they posted their fourth goal after 15 minutes of play with Jesse Kennedy posting his second.

Continual attempts at goal were finally rewarded for Newborough/Yallourn when they scored twice in as many minutes at 88 through Shayne Pavich and a minute later through Adam Batt.

Monash v Trafalgar

With the important sixth spot up for grabs Monash were able to advance their cause with a hard-fought victory over Trafalgar, 3-1.

Braden Paulett, Jace Paulett and Ethan Lawrence were the big play makers for Monash with their first goal coming at 11 minutes when Nilo crossed to Lawrence on the run who put it away for the Wolves’ first.

Through the combination of Nilo, Paulett and Ethan Lawrence, Monash scored their second to lead 2-0 at half-time.

Monash were steady in the second half and were rewarded when Ethan Lawrence was fouled in the box and Thomas Bramstedt made good on the penalty to give Monash a 3-0 lead.

Trafalgar scored at 90 minutes through Dylan Wyatt.

Fortuna v Churchill

Fortuna dished out a 4-0 drubbing of Churchill at the weekend.

It only took 18 minutes before Fortuna showed who was boss when Shane Cassar netted at the first opportunity.

The next three goals coming at regular intervals at 59 minutes from Hayden Cook then Dylan Kramer belted out at 65 minutes and finally Shane Cassar completed his brace at 72 minutes.

Olympians v Moe

Moe took the game away from Olympians, 4-0.

Noah Kane scored the opener Olympians and Matt Shearing got on the sheet after half-time with an excellent goal after five minutes.

Kane came in for his second four minutes later and Sam Gatpan completed the rout at 75 minutes.

Sale v East Gippsland

Sale established a four-point break over Fortuna and Monash after beating East Gippsland, 3-1.

Josh Ryan opened the scoring for Sale after 16 minutes but East Gippsland managed to equalise 11 minutes later with a set shot from Thomas Deery.

Sale were relieved when Tommy Nguyen posted their second after 37 minutes, then Nathi Khamchom scored just before the whistle.

LVSL women

Fortuna and Traralgon City are fighting for top position with both on 32 points but Fortuna have a game in hand due to a wash out.

Traralgon City had the bye last weekend but Fortuna easily beat Churchill 6-0 to claim the top spot.

Trafalgar are in third and are making a valiant bid for second place and beating Monash 4-0 has enhanced their chances.

East Gippsland put in a good showing by beating Sale 2-1 and Falcons pressed their chances with 3-2 win over Newborough/Yallourn.

Pegasus

Pegasus men went down 4-0 to Mannington United Blues to remain on the bottom of the table.

The Pegs are in a relegation position and will need to fight hard over the rest of the season to avoid the drop.

In state league three south, the Pegasus scored a top win over Peninsula Strikers, taking out the match 5-0 to consolidate fourth position.

Striker Chloe Rodda was again in form and netted a hat-trick to bring her tally to 13 for the season.

Round 17 preview

An important match for both teams, Newborough/Yallourn are sitting in second position, six points clear of Fortuna in fourth.

Newborough/Yallourn have had the better of Fortuna over the last five games and their last meeting was a 4-0 victory.

Traralgon City v Sale

Sale, in third spot on the ladder, are on the road again and face up to Traralgon City in sixth this weekend.

Traralgon City are back after the bye and will be fresh.

They beat Sale 4-2 in their last outing and a repeat performance could see them jump up the ladder.

Churchill v Moe

Churchill were flat against Fortuna last week and will need to pick up the pace against Moe this weekend.

The last time they played Moe had a 3-0 victory.

Trafalgar v Olympians

Trafalgar at home could be a difficult task for Olympians this weekend.

The league is so even that only eight points separate second from eighth and any team in that position can make finals.

East Gippsland v Monash

Monash are sitting in fifth position and face East Gippsland this weekend.
