Yallourn golfer lands a hole-in-one

Shannon Buhagiar, a member of Yallourn Golf Club, plays off a daily handicap of six and he achieved his first ever hole-in-one on January 25.

Buhagiar was playing in a teams event of two-person multiplication stableford where both team members stableford scores are multiplied together for the nett result of each hole.

Buhagiar hit first in the group on the eighth at Yallourn.

He sunk the 144m shot with his nine iron with the ball landing about two feet to the right of the pin before spinning back towards the hole.

The group were excited thinking it was a chance to hole out but the ball stayed above ground, and from a distance, club captain Reuben Kincaid went to get the rangefinder for a closer look and the 15 seconds it took to check, the ball had disappeared into the hole.

Buhagiar achieved every golfer’s dream of a hole-in-one and it gave the team four stableford points.

Next up was Buhagiar’s playing partner for the day John Horrocks.

Just before Horrocks’ shot, Kincaid said, “Hey John, no pressure you have to score now as zero times four is still zero.”

Horrocks luckily managed a solitary point for the team by sinking a nervous three-foot putt.

The group celebrated the hole-in-one back at the clubhouse with a round of drinks, and the good form continued as the other team in Buhagiar’s group Kincaid and Jamey Mullen went onto win the overall event for the day with an outstanding 85points.
