Players enjoyed seeing the sun during bowls on Saturday and once more the competitive nature of the competition saw a number of upset results.
Traralgon RSL after defeating last year’s premiers Newborough in the opening round, recovered from their loss last week at Warragul to upset ladder leaders and near neighbours Traralgon.
Morice Gardiner and his rink of Chris Mackintosh, Dale Wilson and Alan Kanavan won 26-17 over Vin McIlwain and his rink of Kevin Enguell, Ron Sherlock and Chris Ward.
Rick Lukey and his team of George Cargill, Peter Barnes and Kevin Durwood helped build a good RSL lead with a 27-17 win over James Scullin and his rink of Chris Thomas, Pat Trewin and Damien Barnes.
Traralgon fought back with Phil Mustoe getting the ball rolling for the visitors with his rink of Ian Hilsley, Maurie Sutcliffe and Abe Roeder winning 26-19 over Beau Williamson and his rink of Titch Hore, Max Aumann and Greg McRonald.
Matt Ferrari and his team of Kirsty Van den Hoff, Dave Currie and Ian Kirkup won 28-21 over Ross Sizeland and his rink of Chris Brown, Ross McKenzie and Terry Hunter leaving Traralgon five shots adrift of the RSL.
Traralgon RSL 14-93 defeated Traralgon 4-88.
Newborough travelled to Morwell Club with Tommy Lodge and his team of Barry Daley, John Backman and Craig Thornton showing the way with a 37-9 win over David Stevens and his
team of Tara Harle, Roger Rejmer and Neil Whitelaw.
Scott Jones and his rink of Josh Kennedy, Tony Knipping and Paul Sherman won 29-16 against Brett Harle and his rink of Vaughan Reimers, Wayne Arnold and John Leicester.
Nosha Michaels and his team of Jo-Anne Michaels, Robert Goldie and Neale Houston won 29-20 over Glenn Trembath and his rink of David Patience, Alan Campbell and Matt Leicester.
The lone Morwell Club winning rink was Rod Smith with his team of Steve Kilpatrick, Dasha Martin and Nobby Noblett, who won 32-18 over Kevin Lovett and his team of Brian Carpenter, Michael Weatherall and Rod Lewis.
Newborough 16-113 defeated Morwell Club 2-77.
Drouin travelled to Moe and Mark Atkinson and his team of David McIlfatrick, Jan Aubrey and John Leighton had a 28-18 win over Jayde Leech and his Moe team of Lachlan Sim, Michelle Muccillo and Banger Harvey.
Sheryl Atkinson and her rink of Graham Aubrey, Maureen Leighton and Mick Fleming won 21-17 over Steve Pallot and his rink of Ian Caines, Bob Rennie and Michael Smogavec.
Les Firth and his rink of John Bickerdike, Steve Barr and David Tayles won 23-18 over Sandy Caines and his rink of Rohan Willcock, David Mander and Barry Hawkett.
Stuart Caines and his rink of Fred Martin, Jan Rudy and Ted Kuklinsky won 25-24 over Toby Wallace and his rink of Denise Hamilton, Arthur Moore and Dale Hendrick to give Moe their only two points.
Drouin 16-96 defeated Moe 2-78.
Darren Kane and his rink of Sean Tatterson, Graham Hill and Nathan Fraser welcomed Warragul to Trafalgar with a 29-12 win over Andrew Glover and his rink of Des Stephens, Kerrie Currie and Janette Gallasch.
Paul Dawson and his rink of Ed Davies, Bruce Giles and Peter Jonas won 31-16 over Bill Clappers and his rink of John Vickerman,
Matt Draisma and Paul Simmons. Ian Miles and his team of Peter Rosenboom, Tim Anderson and Chris Bortignon won 28-22 over Graham Davis and his rink of Ken Landman, Linda McCoy and Peter Gallasch.
The lone winning Warragul rink was Matt Schreyer and his team of David Alderman, Brian Kennedy and Noel Rubenstein, who won 24-23 over Tim Fraser and his rink of Col Carmichael, Ian Riley and Ken Capper.
Trafalgar 16-111 defeated Warragul 2-74.
DIVISION 2
Traralgon RSL (2) travelled to Longwarry and the home team showed no mercy with Adam Proctor and his rink of Ken White, Robert Proctor and Matthew Eccles showing the way with a 43-16 win over Joseph Ward.
Ken Towt and his rink of John O’Shea, Hank Metselaar and Ian Peterson won 31-14 over Jeff Blythman.
Barry White and his team of Elio Meggetto, Mark Serong and Simon Counsel won 29-16 over Alan Jones.
Jason Lieshout and his team of Paul Buckner, Peter Lieshout and Grant Pask completed the clean sweep for Longwarry with a 37-16 win over Ron Osler.
Longwarry 18-140 defeated Traralgon RSL (2) 0-62.
Morwell travelled to Drouin (2) and David Cook carried on his good work from the Over 60s pairs with his team of Gerry Van Duin, Keith Gadsby and Darren Cullen winning 35-14 against Necip Akarsu.
Nathan Cook and his team of Ross Harford, Abbas Mehran and Wayne Bishop had a 28-27 win over Col Jeffrey.
Ron Lyfield and his rink of Chris Goldsbrough, Brian Kingsley and Russell Williams won 22-14 over Bruce Andrews.
Phil Jarred won a lone point for Drouin (2) when he drew with Ernie King.
Morwell 17-106 defeated Drouin (2) 1-76.
Neerim District travelled to Traralgon (2) and for the home team John Taylor and his rink of Jedd Ladgrove, William Francis and Andrew Gapper won 30-18 over Trevor Kuhnell.
Barry Fernance and his team of Bill Kirby, Al Hegarty and Kathy Smiles won 32-24 over Neil Adams. Gary Locke and his team of Nick Turnbull, Garry Trewin and Trevor James won 24-17 over Peter Throup. The lone winner for Neerim District was Peter Brooks and his rink of Colin McKay. Greg Bond and Ross Pollard won 25-21 over Graham Cross.
Traralgon (2) 16-107 defeated Neerim District 2-84.
Newborough (2) welcomed a confident Thorpdale on a high after their big win over Drouin (2) last week.
John Wasiukiewicz and his home rink of Kevin Myrteza, Sarah Ashby and Alan Ryan got the ball rolling with a 36-24 win over Ross Kennedy.
Graham Cocks and his rink of Phil Marston, John Arnold and Ed Whelan continued for the home side with a 29-24 win over Brendan Jennings.
Gary Ingley and his rink of Graham Smith, Spencer Goss and Fran Clark won 25-20 over Ben Powell.
Joan Goldie and her rink of Stuart Gemmill, Wayne Butler and Jeff Wetzel completed the Newborough clean sweep with a 28-19 win over Danny Vanzuylen.

Newborough (3) travelled to Morwell (2) and for the home team Shashi Bhatti and his team of Danny McKeown, Jeff Prendergast and Bob Wilson won 33-21 over Jim Cuthbertson.
John Osborne and his team of Ron Draeger, Judy Tumney and John Bradbury won 28-13 over Ken Bechaz.
For the visitors, Michael Holroyd and his rink of Brian Milkins, Julie Jackson and Heather Mooney won 27-21 over Peter Borrodale and Peter Bertoli defeated Bob Skinner 27-26.
Morwell (2) 14-108 defeated Newborough (2) 4-88.
Traralgon (3) travelled to Yinnar and for the visitors, Norbert Schroeter and his rink of Frank Stake, Clint Jones and Bill Bishop won 38-10 over Russ Peters.
May Cross defeated Murray De La Haye 29-23 and Brendan Smiles defeated Tim Roche 21-20.
The best rink for the locals was Gavin Osborne, who won 24-19 over Bob Dykstra.
Traralgon (3) 16-107 defeated Yinnar 2-77.
Garfield had a clean sweep over Moe (2) with their best rink being Nick Henwood and his team of Frank Prins, Ron Saunders and Tom Cleary with a 31-20 win over Val Griffiths.
Shane Oliver defeated Noel Savige 26-25, Steve Bassed defeated Brian Rodgers 21-19 and Stephen Whyte defeated Les Stolarik 26-17 to give all the points to Garfield.
Garfield 18-104 defeated Moe (2) 0-81.
Warragul (2) played host to Boolarra and David Gatewood and his home team of John Bell, Norm Dickson and Brent Grigg won 33-16 over John Cargill.
Jim Moyle defeated Graeme Colbert 33-26.
For the visitors, Bob Allen defeated Bob Currie 26-14 and Darren Napier defeated Peter Ellis 22-14, leaving Warragul (2) the winners by two shots.
Warragul (2) 14-94 defeated Boolarra 4-92.
DIVISION 4
Warragul (3) welcomed Drouin (3) and with Bill Clarke winning 28-12 over Peter Hone and Keith Wilkins defeating Lloyd Smith 24-17 it was not enough to combat Margaret Owens and her rink of Max Hine, Gerald Wakefield and Irene Dawson winning 36-14 over Lester Mason and Gwen Price defeating Roy Hammond 29-22.
Drouin (3) 14-94 defeated Warragul (3) 4-88.
Morwell (3) came home from Yallourn North with a good win with Ian Auld and his rink of Les Brown, Rita Reddiex and John Kuhne having a 28-14 win over Darren Fry.
Trevor Curtis had a 21-20 win over Sherrie Stanton.
The home team was well-served by Rob Matthews winning 27-22 over Bob D’Brass and George Platschinda defeating Bob Lorenz 29-26.
Morwell (3) 14-97 defeated Yallourn North 4-90.
Traralgon (4) with Roger Davey and his rink of Tony Richardson, Ross Smith and Terry Lawrence won 32-11 over Tony Dawson to lay the foundations for a win over Trafalgar (2) with Ian Wills defeating Frank Farrugia 24-21 and for the visitors Wayne Hurst defeated Colin Mayman 23-20 and Mal Clymo defeated Stuart Hulse.
Traralgon (4) 14-99 defeated Trafalgar (2) 4-85.
The Newborough (4) match with Yarragon was declared a draw with the points being shared due to a Yarragon player suffering from COVID-19.
Newborough (4) 9-0 drew with Yarragon 9-0.
DIVISION 5
Morwell Club (2) 14-87 had a big win over Traralgon RSL (3) 2-48.
The big winners for Morwell Club (3) were the rink of Zac Arnold, Jo Leslie and Lisa Arnold with skip David Broadbent winning 39-11.
Garfield (2) 14-81 defeated Morwell (4) 2-79 with Bob Lamport winning 29-23 and Don Knight winning 34-21 despite Daryl Coleman winning 35-18 for Morwell (4).
Neerim District (2) 14-94 defeated Moe (2) 2-49 with the best winning rink being Mal Collins and his team of Des Pelly, Gerry Englestaad and John Rochford who won 51-10.
Traralgon (5) 16-81 defeated Churchill 0-52 with Ron Hales and his rink of Ken Warner, Muriel Johnson and Peter Dobell winning 37-13.
DIVISION 6
Newborough (5) 10-49 defeated Trafalgar (4) 0-35, Longwarry (2) 10-65 defeated Boolarra (2) 0-35, Yallourn North (2) 10-73 defeated Thorpdale (2) 0-30. Morwell Club (3) 10-16 defeated Yinnar/Churchill 0-0, Traralgon (6) 8-40 defeated Trafalgar (3) 2-36.
THIS WEEK
In Division 1, Traralgon RSL after defeating Newborough and Traralgon, travel to Drouin.
Warragul host Newborough, Traralgon heads to Morwell Club looking for a win after losing to RSL.
Trafalgar and Moe also do battle at Trafalgar.
In Division 2, Traralgon (2) hosts Morwell and it will be interesting if they play them indoors or on the grass.
Longwarry travels to Newborough (2) in what should be a tense clash.
Thorpdale will be looking for a win at home against Neerim District and Traralgon RSL (2) hosts Drouin (2) in another interesting clash.
