SATURDAY PENNANT, DIVISION ONE
Shocks galore in the latest round of Strzelecki North Bowls Saturday Pennant saw some stunning upsets with Morwell Club defeating Traralgon, who lost their second consecutive game.
Underdog Warragul had a good win over Newborough.
Traralgon RSL, who had beaten both Newborough and Traralgon in recent weeks, found the Drouin green not to their liking as Drouin powered to top place on the ladder.
Trafalgar is not far behind after a solid win over Moe.
Morwell Club upset Traralgon with Brett Harle and his rink of Roger Rejmer, Wayne Arnold and Tara Harle winning 27-14 over Phil Mustoe and his rink of Ian Hilsley, Maurice Sutcliffe and Abe Roeder.
Nobby Noblett and his rink of David Stevens together with Matt and John Leicester won 27-15 over Vince McIlwain and his team of Shane Chapman, Dave Currie and Chris Ward.
Matt Ferrari and his rink of Kirsty Van Den Hoff, Kevin Enguell and Ian Kirkup fought back for Traralgon with a 20-13 win over Glenn Trembath and his rink of David Broadbent, Alan Campbell and David Patience.
James Scullin and his rink of Ron Sherlock, Pat Trewin and Damien Barnes defeated Rod Smith and his rink of Steve Kilpatrick, Dasha Martin and Neil Whitelaw.
Morwell Club 14-87 defeated Traralgon 4-72.
Drouin was host to Traralgon RSL and Samantha Atkinson and her rink of Steve Barr, David Tayles and Les Firth had a 44-17 win over Morice Gardiner and his rink of Paul Matters, Dale Wilson and Greg McDonald.
Mark Atkinson and his team of David McIlfatrick, Jan Aubrey and John Leighton had a 37-17 win over Rick Lukey and his team of George Cargill, Peter Barnes and Kevin Durwood.
Toby Wallace and his rink of Denise Hamilton, Arthur Moore and Dale Hendrick won 28-21 over Beau Williamson and his rink of Titch Hore, Eric Warfe and Max Aumann.
Sheryl Atkinson and her rink of Graham Aubrey, Maureen Leighton and Mick Fleming won 28-19 over Ross Sizeland and his rink of Ross McKenzie, Alan Jones and Terry Hunter
Drouin 18-137 defeated Traralgon RSL 0-74.
Newborough travelled to Warragul where Andrew Glover and his rink of Des Stephens, Paul Simmons and Janette Gallasch won 25-20 over Tommy Lodge and his team of Barry Daley, John Backman and Craig Thornton.
Matt Schreyer and his team of David Alderman, Brian Kennedy and Noel Rubenstein won 31-25 over Nosha Michaels and his team of Robert Goldie, Jo-Anne Michaels and George Lambos.
Alan Grubb and his rink of Josh Kennedy, Tony Knipping and Scott Jones won 21-20 over Graeme Davis and his rink of Ken Landman, Linda McCoy and Peter Gallasch.
Kevin Lovett and his team of Brian Carpenter, Michael Weatherall and Neale Houston won 29-23 over Bill Clappers and his rink of John Vickerman, Matt Draisma and Ken Scammell leaving Warragul the winners by four shots.
Warragul 14-99 defeated Newborough 4-95.
Moe travelled to Trafalgar and for the home team Tim Fraser and his rink of Col Carmichael, Ian Riley and Ken Capper set the ball rolling with a 39-22 win over Sandy Caines and his rink of Rohan Willcock, Paul Read and Barry Hawkett.
Ian Miles and his team of Peter Rosenboom, Tim Anderson and Chris Bortignon had a 31-21 win over Jayde Leech and his rink of Lachlan Sim, Michelle Muccillo and Banger Harvey.
Darren Kane and his rink of Sean Tatterson, Graham Hill and Nathan Fraser won 19-18 over Steve Pallot and his rink of Ian Caines, Dave Mander and Michael Smogavec.
Stuart Caines and his rink of Rod Matthews, Jan Rudy and Ted Kuklinsky won 24-19 over Paul Dawson and his rink of Anthony Dalgleish, Bruce Giles and Peter Jonas to give Moe their only two points.
Trafalgar 16-108 defeated Moe 2-85.
DIVISION 2
Traralgon RSL (2) welcomed Drouin (2) and showed no mercy winning all four rinks.
Joseph Ward and his rink of Max Plant, Julie Sutcliffe and Shirley McKenzie defeated Phil Jarred 33-12. Jeff Blythman and his rink of Ian Hartley, Ian Eddy and John Farquhar won 29-16 over Brian Thorpe.
Ron Osler and his rink of Craig Wilson, Chris Brown and Max Gibbins won 32-21 over Col Jeffrey.
Gordon Asbury completed the sweep with a 24-13 win over Bruce Andrews.
Traralgon RSL (2) 18-118 defeated Drouin (2) 0-62.
Morwell travelled to Traralgon (2) and narrowly won to maintain their unbeaten streak.
Ron Lyfield and his rink of Chris Goldsbrough, Brian Kingsley and Russell Williams won 24-20 over Cary Locke.
Nathan Cook and his team of Ron Draeger, Abbas Mehran and Wayne Bishop won 22-21 over John Taylor.
In a tight game, Graham Cross and his rink of Chris Thomas, Ken Mooney and Ian Bloomfield won 21-19 over Ernie King.
The last match between Barry Fernance and David Cook was drawn 18-18 leaving Morwell the winner by three shots.
Morwell 15-83 defeated Drouin (2) 3-80.
Thorpdale were glad to be back on their home green and welcomed Neerim District.
Thorpdale showed they are no easy beats at home as Ben Powell and his rink of Wendy Jennings, Ron Mackie and Dwayne Gunn won 27-16.
Brendan Jennings and his rink of Brian O’Connell, Keith Geisler and Denis Gunn had a low scoring 17-14 win over Ross Pollard.
Danny Vanzuylen and his rink of David Ferguson, Dylan Gunn and Scott Jennings won 23-16 over Peter Throup.
Peter Brooks and his rink of Colin McKay, Greg Bond and Jim Fallon won 24-16 over Ross Kennedy to be the only winning Neerim District rink.
Thorpdale 16-83 defeated Neerim District 2-70.
Newborough (2) continued their good form with a big win over Longwarry.
John Wasiukiewicz and his home rink of Kevin Myrteza, Sarah Ashby and Alan Ryan got the ball rolling with a 31-20 win over Ken Towt.
Graham Cocks and his rink of Brian Milkins, Phil Marston and Ed Whelan had a 21-20 win over Adam Proctor.
Gary Ingley and his rink of Jeff Edwards, Graham Smith, and Spencer Goss won 23-20 over Jason Lieshout.
Joan Goldie and her rink of Stuart Gemmill, Dave Wurlod and Jeff Wetzel won 25-19 over Barry White.
Newborough 18-100 defeated Longwarry 0-79.
DIVISION 3
Newborough (3) travelled to Moe (2) and won all four rinks.
Robbert Cook and his rink of Dave Madden, Mary Whelan and Peter Bertoli won 34-12 over Val Griffiths.
Michael Holroyd defeated Brian Rodgers 22-20, Ken Bechaz defeated Noel Savige 33-17 and Jim Cuthbertson defeated Les Stolarik 21-19.
Newborough (2) 18-110 defeated Moe (2) 0-68.
Traralgon (3) travelled to Morwell (3) and for the visitors May Cross and her team of Robert Marsh, Ron Baker and Max Cumming defeated John Osborne 33-14.
Bob Skinner and his home team of Nick Marino, Ross Harford and Bill Tyben won 37-11 over Brendan Smiles.
The other winning Morwell (2) skippers were Ken Turner who won 25-20 and Shashi Bhatti who won 29-18.
Morwell 16-105 defeated Traralgon (3) 2-82.
Near neighbours Boolarra and Yinnar had a mighty battle with Boolarra winning by two shots on home soil.
The winning Boolarra skippers were Darren Napier 29-14 and Bob Allan who won 24-22.
The winning rinks for Yinnar were former Boolarra player Russ Peters who won 26-16 and Gavin Osborne who won 25-20.
Boolarra 14-89 defeated Yinnar 4-87.
The Garfield and Warragul (2) match was not played due to COVID.
Garfield 9-0 drew with Warragul (2) 9-0.
DIVISION 4
NewborouGH (4) welcomed Warragul (3) with Charlie Cadby and his rink of John Vicic, Jan Wakker and Joy Cadby winning 43-19 over Bill Clarke.
Maurice Ludlow won 25-14 over Keith Wilkins and Trevor Ball won 23-19 over Roy Hammond.
The lone winning Warragul (3) skipper was Russell Carrick winning 25-23 over Rod Dixon
Newborough (4) 16-114 defeated Warragul (3) 2-77.
Drouin (3) welcomed Yallourn North with a good win with Peter Hone and his rink of Sep Van Maanen, Jim Purvis and Andre de Waele winning 38-13 over Darren Fry.
Barry Price won 29-26 and Lloyd Smith won 30-16. George Platschinda was the lone Yallourn North winner as he won 28-22.
Drouin (3) 14-119 defeated Yallourn North 4-87.
Traralgon (4) with Roger Davey and his rink of Tony Richardson, Ross Smith and Terry Lawrence had another good win as they won 38-13 over Ian Auld.
Ian Wills won 34-28 and Colin Mayman won 22-21.
The lone winner for Morwell (3) was Trevor Curtis who won 25-19.
Traralgon (4) 16-113 defeated Morwell (3) 2-87.
Trafalgar (2) had a big all rinks up win at Yarragon with Tony Dawson and his rink of Travis Jenkins, Helen Robertson and Michael Manning winning 32-14.
Other winning Trafalgar skippers were Mal Clymo 22-16, Wayne Hurst 24-21 and Frank Farrugia 34-18.
Trafalgar (2) 18-112 defeated Yarragon 0-69.
DIVISION 5
Morwell (4) 14-78 defeated Morwell Club (2) 2-56 with Ian Wilson and his rink of Bob Smith, Ray Whittacker and Colin Grant winning 35-13, Daryl Coleman won 21-18 and for the visitors Beryl Noblett won 25-22.
Neerim District (2) 16-99 defeated Traralgon (5) 0-38 with Jim Schroeder and his team of Steve Halligan, Michael Talbot and George Rymer winning 39-8.
Malcolm Collins won 23-20 and Robert Cook and his rink of Tom Goodwin, Neville Cousins and Cookie Halligan won 37-10.
Churchill 14-92 defeated Traralgon RSL (2) 2-80 with Chris Thomas being the only winning skipper winning 26-14 after the other two rinks drew 33-33 which was very unusual to have two draws each with the same score.
The Moe (3) 8-0 and Garfield (2) 8-0 game was not played due to COVID.
DIVISION 6
Newborough (5) 8-51 defeated Morwell Club (3) 2-50, Trafalgar (4) 0-63 defeated Boolarra (2) 0-44, Trafalgar (3) 10-61 defeated Thorpdale (2) 0-30, Traralgon (6) 10-16 defeated Longwarry (2) 0-0, Yinnar/Churchill 10-62 defeated Yallourn North (2) 0-41.
THIS WEEK
In Division 1, the top four teams face off with Newborough hosting Trafalgar and Drouin travelling to Traralgon. Moe plays Warragul at home and Traralgon RSL plays Morwell Club in what should be a most interesting round.
In Division 2, Longwarry hosts Thorpdale, Newborough (2) travels to Neerim District, Drouin (2) hosts Traralgon (2) and Morwell hosts Traralgon RSL (2)
In Division 3, top teams Garfield and Newborough (3) do battle. Warragul (2) hosts Moe (2), Traralgon (3) hosts Boolarra and Yinnar hosts Morwell (2).
