SATURDAY’S scheduled Women’s National Basketball League double-header in the Latrobe Valley was postponed due to COVID protocols.
The Sydney Uni Flames v Perth Lynx and Melbourne Boomers v Canberra Capitals clashes were called off just a few hours before they were scheduled to tip-off at the Gippsland Indoor Regional Sports Stadium in Traralgon.
The decision was made based on advice from Basketball Australia and the WNBL will advise a new date for both games as soon as possible.
Tickets purchased for both games will be honoured when these games are rescheduled. More information from Ticketek will be emailed to ticket holders.
“The postponement of these games is disappointing. The entire organisation was excited to showcase the WNBL in Traralgon and bring a game back to the State Basketball Centre,” Melbourne Boomers chair Tony Hallam said.
“The health and safety of the players, coaches, clubs, staff and fans is the League’s number one priority when considering these matters.”
The WNBL apologised for any disruption caused to fans and members.
“Sport around Australia and across the world has been impacted by the virus, with games postponed in most elite competitions and the WNBL is no exception,” the league said.
“As we work through re-scheduling these games we send our best to everyone working so hard to help the community at this time.”
