FALCONS 2000 Soccer Club opened its Latrobe Valley Soccer League season on Saturday with a poignant tribute to the late great Don Di Fabrizio OAM.
The legendary Falcons patron died in January, aged 88.
Di Fabrizio was a giant of the Latrobe Valley, making an inedible impact on business and the
community, taking Falcons from a small country club all the way to the National Soccer League.
A litany of players, officials and patrons descended on Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium to pay their respects as the Falcons of today began their LVSL campaign.
Those in attendance heard tributes delivered by members of the Di Fabrizio family, before a legends match was played featuring players from the NSL days.
The legends game saw players come from as far as Brisbane and Sydney to take part, before the senior men’s match between Falcons 2000 and Traralgon City kicked-off.
Di Fabrizio would have surely been smiling from above after Falcons won 5-0.
The Falcons women’s side also saluted earlier in the day, winning 9-1.
Falcons’ players and officials past and present gathered in the club rooms after the senior
match to reminiscence and remember the legacy of a man whose name adorns the grandstand at Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium.
Falcons 2000 is planning to have a memorial cup established to be played in Di Fabrizio’s honour in coming seasons.
