GRAND Finals were played in the Latrobe Valley Baseball Association on Sunday, September 11.
Churchill Braves hosted the day, and had two teams competing.
All senior grades for Moe/Newborough Dodgers played, with B Grade and C Grade against
Churchill and A Grade against Traralgon Redsox.
The Dodgers won the A Grade flag, while Churchill took out B and C Grade.
Most Valuable Player awards for the Grand Finals went to Moe/Newborough’s Nathan Simpson (A Grade), Churchill’s Jamie Brierley (B Grade) and Churchill’s Sam Gillet (C Grade).
IN the A Grade match, Moe/Newborough defeated Traralgon 5-2.
In the first innings, Traralgon got their offense started when Nathan Simpson toed the rubber for Moe/Newborough. The fireballer allowed 11 hits and two runs over eight innings, striking out four.
Luke Hornstra led things off on the hill for Traralgon. The hurler allowed nine hits and five
runs over eight innings, striking out one and walking one.
Moe/Newborough racked up nine hits in the game, with Luke Halket and Benn Zomer having multiple hits.
Halket went 3-4 at the plate to lead the Dodgers in hits.
Traralgon Redsox totalled 11 hits, with Andy Matthews, Matt Robertson, Jordan Spiteri and
Luke Hornstra all managing multiple hits.
B GRADE saw Moe/Newborough let the game slip away early.
The Dodgers couldn’t recover in a 11-5 loss to Churchill.
The Braves scored on a double by Haydan Jarrett, a single by Brad Jones, and a single by Jamie Brierley in the second innings.
Moe/Newborough struggled to put runs on the board, and had a tough time defensively containing the Braves.
Tim Bellerby led things off on the hill for Churchill.
The righty surrendered five runs on five hits in seven innings, striking out seven and walking zero.
Trent Jobs started on the mound for Moe/Newborough. The pitcher allowed seven hits and
eight runs in four innings, striking out three and walking one.
Mitch McGrath threw three innings in relief.
C GRADE took field first with Moe/Newborough up against Churchill.
It was an intense game from the start, with both teams putting up a bunch of runs.
In the end however, the Dodgers fell to the Braves 15-9.
Chris Forrester led things off on the mound for Moe/Newborough, lasting one-and-a-half innings.
He allowed two hits and four runs and walked one.
Anu Anubhav threw four innings in relief.
Sam Gillett started on the mound for Churchill and went three innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits and striking out four. Brad Jones came in as relief.
The Dodgers tallied nine hits for the day, and 10 stolen bases.
Churchill tallied 11 hits with 13 stolen bases during the game.
