WORKSAFE is investigating a horrific incident that played out just a day before football and netball returned to Ted Summerton Reserve.

A construction worker was flown to hospital last Friday (July 10), after allegedly being struck by a boom while pouring cement.

The incident took place where the outdoor nets on the Vale Street side of the venue Moe previously stood.

The Express visited the site late last Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning (July 11).

Emergency services were quickly on the scene. An air ambulance landed on the Ted Summerton Reserve oval.

WorkSafe inspectors surveyed the area Saturday morning.

The concrete pump truck was parked on the sealed fire track, yet one outrigger was placed on a dirt section and the other on the bitumen road, most likely causing it to tip.

Ted Summerton Reserve is still under construction, receiving its facelift as a part of the Commonwealth Games Legacy package.

Given this is a state government project, Worksafe is expected to hand down an extensive finding.

Matches went ahead at Ted Summerton Reserve at the weekend, although the Vale St side remained largely off limits.
