FORTUNA 60

By ALLAN ROBERTS

FORTUNA ’60 Soccer Club proudly inducted its 25th life member at the club’s presentation last Saturday night: Mr Giuseppe “Sep” DeLuca.

Sep was formally welcomed into this prestigious honour by club life member, long time friend, and former teammate Mr Tony Marino.

In his speech, Tony reflected on Sep’s extraordinary playing career and his unwavering commitment to the club across more than 30 years of continuous service at the Den – reinforcing exactly why Sep is more than deserving of this recognition.

Skill: Nonda Lazaris swept the Fortuna club awards, winning best player and players player.

There is no doubt that Sep stands as one of the most successful and naturally gifted players to ever represent Fortuna ’60, and indeed one of the finest within the Latrobe Valley football landscape. His achievements speak for themselves:

Eight senior league titles as a player;

Two senior league titles as club president, and;

Multiple league, finals and cup victories across seniors, reserves and second division – truly too many to count.

There are very few modern-day trophies in the Fortuna cabinet that Sep has not directly contributed to, either from being on the pitch or off it.

Ten years ago, Sep stepped off the pitch (albeit for the occasional cameo in ressie’s and second division) and into the role of club president – a position he has held ever since. Under his leadership, the club secured its record-breaking 10th Latrobe Valley Soccer League senior league title, followed by its maiden state league title in 2025.

Throughout his presidency, Sep has remained focused on delivering outcomes that strengthen the club as a whole, never seeking personal recognition. But standing in front of the wall of framed senior league winning strips he has been instrumental in helping deliver, he received due recognition last Saturday night.

Sep has also coached junior teams at Fortuna and at LVSL representative level, always eager to pass on his knowledge and passion to the next generation. Even in the twilight of his playing career, he could be found on the pitch offering guidance not only to Fortuna’s emerging players but also to young opposition players – a testament to his genuine desire to see all young footballers improve and learn. (And yes, occasionally subbing himself off for a cheeky dart and a Red Bull during a game.)

Overcome with emotion and completely taken by surprise, Sep delivered a heartfelt speech reflecting on his 30-plus years with the club, his love for the game, and the deep personal meaning both have held throughout his life.

This honor is long overdue, and absolutely deserved, for one of the humblest and most genuine blokes you’ll ever meet.

With the post season formalities out of the way, the club will now turn its attention to planning for the 2027 season.

Any interested players are encouraged to keep an eye on the club’s social media channels for coaching and preseason announcements.
