Mill talks continue

Enterprise bargaining negotiations between Australian Paper contractor Chelgrave and unions are continuing, after the parties failed to reach an agreement by their anticipated deadline.

Chelgrave, the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and Australian Workers Union had hoped to finalise an agreement by last Friday for about a dozen Maryvale Mill workers.

Twelve months of debate hit a stalemate earlier this month, prompting the company to lock out the workers and the unions to subsequently form a picket line at the entrance to the mill.

The lock-out was lifted and picket line dissolved on 17 May following a mediation session at Fair Work Australia.

The parties now hope to wrap up discussions and come to an agreement by the end of this week.
