T-birds come from behind

BASKETBALL

TRARALGON pulled a stunning heist to upset Moe Meteors by a single point in Country Basketball League Gippsland action away from home on Sunday.

The T-Birds fought back from an eight-point three-quarter-time deficit, having trailed at every change, to claim a memorable come-from-behind victory.

The consistent Ben Barlow posted a game high 28 points to inspire the struggling T-Birds, supported by Frazar Brouns with 25.

Moe was well served by Simon Vannapreseuth (18) and Luke Shelley (17) amid a host of contributors.

Traralgon also accounted for Bairnsdale 71-65 on Saturday to double its win tally for the season over the weekend.

The T-Birds now sit sixth on the ladder, however the sides above them have all played fewer games to date.

Churchill retained its position in the top four despite a two-point loss to Warragul on the road.

Jordan Canovan (25), Rob Michaelides (19) and Nick Michaelides (16) brought Churchill within a whisker of a last quarter boilover, but fell just short of the mark.

This weekend Moe tackles Sale, Traralgon faces Bairnsdale again while Churchill hosts Korumburra in the final round prior to the Christmas break.

The competition will return on 10 January.
