TWIN City Archery Club’s dress rehearsal for the national field titles was a raging success at the weekend.
About 60 archers competed in the Morwell club’s Fita Field Grand Prix, doubling last year’s entries, tackling the Toner’s Lane course which will be used for the nationals later this month.
Drew Orton, William Van Oosten, Lee Solomon and Dennis Luobikis all won events for the local club.
TCAC’s highlight was a one-two-three in the male masters compound, with Tiziano Andreazzi, Brett Carn and Peter Bennett filling the podium.
Bennett, along with wife Viv and Merv Grinstead, will now travel to the Australian Masters Games in Adelaide.
Skilled veteran Grinstead has previously won four gold medals in 2007 and silvers in 1999 and 2005.
The 74 year-old added a silver at the 2009 World Masters Games in Sydney and bronze in the 2001 Australian Masters Games in Newcastle.
TCAC will host the field archery nationals on 23 October, with 250 competitors already locked in.
MORWELL Cricket Club’s female representative side is on the look-out for new players ahead of the Gippsland Cricket League season.
Training for all past, present and potential players starts today at 4.45pm at the Keegan Street Reserve in Morwell.
Training will be every Thursday thereafter.
Open to players of any age the Morwell-based side competes in the GCL against sides from Warragul, Sale/Maffra, Leongatha, and Bairnsdale, and has a record of strong performances over the past five years.
The side has a mixture of junior and senior players that combine well to compete at this level.

GRANTS of up to $500 are now available for junior athletes living in the Moe and Newborough district.
The Moe Junior Sports Development Committee funding is designed to help athletes that show “more than average” ability in their chosen sport with coaching, travel and other costs related to their sporting pursuits.
To date the committee has doled out around $4000 to about a dozen athletes in the 3825 postcode in the past three years.
Applications close on 14 October.

TRARALGON RSL Bowling Club will host barefoot bowls beginning Monday from 6pm.
The club will provide bowls, greens and tuition.
Participants must wear either flat soled shoes or play in bare feet.

THE Geoff Watt Memorial half marathon and fun run will be staged on 25 October.
The day will include 2.5 kilometre, 5km, 10km and half marathon events, with spot prizes and fancy dress prizes on the family friendly occasion.
A Young Athlete Award for an under 18 male and female will be introduced as part of this year’s event.
Winners will receive an Asics gift pack and membership to Gippsland Athletics Club, which has supported the run for 40 years.
