TRARALGON Swimming Club dominated the country standings to finish fourth at the state under 12 championships held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
TSC’s contingent of 17 swimmers, the third biggest in Victoria, and 15 open swimmers recently returned from the second leg of the championships with five gold, five silver and nine bronze medals.
The club was in record breaking form with 13 out-of-Gippsland and two country Victorian benchmarks broken.
Young gun Jordyn Cargill (10) had an outstanding meet with three gold, one silver and four bronze medals and seven record swims.
Club captains Mikaela Cornelissen and Caiden Gill led by example, with the highlight being their gold medals in the 50 metre butterfly and 100m freestyle respectively – a first for TSC.
Multi-class swimmer Ruby Storm won three medals in her first appearance at state level, while 12 year-old Harliai Curthoys-Davies won a bronze medal and broke an out-of-Gippsland record.
“We had the third biggest team in Victoria with our 12 and under swimmers, a compliment to our junior program, however the overall result of fourth in the state was equal to the highest position the club has ever achieved,” head coach Brian Ford said.
“The club and its swimmers is having its best year to date, again a compliment to our coaching team.”
Swimmers are now targeting the long course State Championships in December.
