A TYERS gymnast is preparing to take centre stage at the 2016 Australian Gymnastics Championships next week.
Maisey McCristal will compete for the title of Australian champion at the competition, to be held at Hisense Arena, Melbourne, from 23 May to 4 June.
The trampoline gymnastics athlete, who trains at Cheltenham Youth Club, was named on the Victorian state team to contest the premier gymnastics event, following a series of selection trials.
“This year’s Australian Gymnastics Championships promises to be bigger and better than ever, featuring 1400 athletes competing over 6000 routines across 12 days of competition,” a championships spokesperson said.
“Not only will the Australian champions be named across five gymsports in the heart of Melbourne’s sporting precinct, but this year’s event will also serve as the final Olympic selection event for our elite athletes, with announcements as to who has been selected to travel to Rio to be made on Sunday, 29 May and Friday, 3 June.”
