Beecroft named Gippstar winner

Traralgon swimmer and Paralympian Emily Beecroft capped off a monumental period of her sporting career by being named Gippstar open winner for the month of September.

Emily competed in four events at the Rio Paralympic Games, taking part in the 200 metre individual medley, 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle.

She achieved personal best times in all four events and was a finalist in the 100m fly, 100m free and 50m free.

Emily finished sixth in both 100m events and fourth in the freestyle, just .03sec from third and a bronze medal.

The Gippstar September junior award winner was Cohen Wade from Stratford for equestrian.

In September Cohen competed in the Australian Show Jumping Championships held at Werribee Park.

He competed in the Open 80 centimetre and 90cm show jumping classes over four days and achieved two second places, one third place and one fourth place.

He also competed at the Boneo Cup Show, jumping in the Open 80cm, where he claimed a first and third place, and the Sale Show Jumping Club – Spring Show on his pony Lakevale Tarwyn in the Open 80cm where he placed second.

Nominations for annual awards for: team of the year, club of the year, special achiever award and Gippsland sporting champion are open and can be lodged at any time in the Gippstar voting year.
