Four-peat for Churchill men’s basketball

Gippsland’s final of the Country Basketball League has been played and won with Churchill claiming bragging rights.

The Blue Devils put down the Warragul Warriors by 28 points in the grand final at Latrobe Leisure Traralgon on Saturday, 4 February.

“It was an amazing result for us,” Churchill captain Jordan Canovan said.

“It was by far our best game of the season and a really good result for us in the end.”

It was tight until the main break, but the Blue Devils put their opponents to the sword to claim the club’s fourth consecutive league title.

“The first half was really close and we went into half-time only four points up,” Canovan said.

All players contributed to the win with tight showings across the court.

“The way we did it, with our defence leading to our offence, really stands out,” Canovan said.

Canovan also said the championship club’s tight-knit supporter and volunteer base made a big contribution to the win.

Games in the summer league will start up again later in the year and the club is aiming to make it five in a row.
