Here comes hockey

Latrobe Valley Hockey Association is looking forward to the start of the 2017 winter hockey season.

It hits off with a registration day on Saturday, 25 March at the Churchill Synthetic Sports Field.

The opening round will take place on Friday, 31 March in the under 17s while under sevens, 10s and seniors get underway Saturday April 1st.

This year the men’s competition will be trialling a nine-a-side format with the opening round still to be confirmed.

The under 17 competition has expanded to six teams with the inclusion of squads from East Gippsland and a combined Traralgon/ East Gippsland side.

All clubs are seeking and welcoming new players, along with encouraging past players to return.

Training has begun on Wednesdays from 4.15pm for Traralgon Clubs and Thursdays from 5pm for Churchill and Moe Clubs.

All training and games are held at Churchill Synthetic Sports Field, Mary Grant Bruce Drive, Churchill.

The association also offers an introductory program aimed at six to 10 year olds running from Tuesday, 14 March at Grey Street Primary School, Traralgon from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.

The first session is a free come and try, after that participants are encouraged to register and receive eight weeks of training, their own stick, ball, shin guards and back pack for $85.
