Four people have been charged following a joint operation by Latrobe Highway Patrol and the Sheriff’s Department across the Latrobe Valley last Thursday.
Police used an automatic number plate recognition vehicle on Shakespeare Street, Traralgon and Waterloo Road, Moe to identify unregistered vehicles, unlicensed drivers and people with outstanding warrants.
In Traralgon, a 31-year-old Traralgon man was charged with drug driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving unlicensed.
While in Moe, a 29-year-old Moe woman was charged with driving while suspended and failing to wear a seatbelt, a 43-year-old Newborough woman was charged with drug driving and a 24-year-old woman from Moe was charged with drug driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and unlicensed driving.
More than 1650 vehicles were scanned during the operation.
The four drivers are expected to be charged on summons and will face Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Five infringement notices were also issued for unlicensed driving, four were issued for unregistered vehicles and one for exceeding the speed limit.
Two vehicles were issued with defect notices.
Joint operation yields results
Thirty people were arrested following a joint operation by Latrobe police and loss prevention officers targeting shop theft and anti-social behaviour across the Latrobe Valley.
Morwell Police Acting Sergeant Dallas Howell said the eight-day operation took place at Moe, Morwell and Traralgon.
“Most of the people faced charges relating to shop theft, anti-social behaviour and outstanding warrants,” Act Sgt Howell said.
The majority of people arrested were bailed to appear before Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
