A massive town garage sale incorporating at least 15 houses will take place at Yallourn North later this month as the town rallies to strengthen and connect its community.
Organised by the Yallourn North Action Group, the town garage sale will return following a three-year hiatus on Saturday, 28 October and promises to be a gold mine for those who love a bargain, according to its organisers.
Yallourn North Action Group member and event organiser Libby Mitchell said a range of household items would be up for grabs, including bric-a-brac, crockery and whitegoods to name a few.
“We’ve got some really good retro items, anything from pictures to retro cooking equipment for that type of bright orange and bright green market,” Ms Mitchell said.
“There will be plenty of modern items on sale including electric woks, cupboards, refrigerators and I know one person is selling a lot of sports and bike equipment too.
Town maps with garage sale locations will be available from Yallourn North Caf and Takeaway on Reserve Street during the morning of the sale.
“We have a brand new caf in Reserve Street and Gani, the owner, has kindly offered to issue all the maps to the visitors who can come from 8am onwards, grab a coffee and something to eat and get set on the sale,” Ms Mitchell said.
“There will be one lucky map given away during the event to a person who will be receiving a $25 voucher to spend at the caf .”
Yallourn North Action Group president Margaret Gaulton said the event would empower the community and ensure unused and unwanted items would not end up in landfill.
The Yallourn North op shop and Old Brown Coal Mine Museum will be open during the event.
Entry is free for visitors while participating households in Yallourn North are required to pay a $10 fee to assist with advertising and promotion.
The Yallourn North Town Garage Sale will be held on Saturday, 28 October.
