Traralgon and District cricket action continues this weekend as the second day of round three play kicks off between MTY Raiders and Imperials at Catterick Reserve.
MTY Raiders recorded their lowest score ever at the weekend and were all out for just 42 in the first innings.
The low score was enough to see Raiders ahead at the end of day one after Imperials went in to bat and were listless, managing just 20.
Both sides recorded five ducks in their first innings efforts.
Imperials bowler Tom Coulson was damaging and took 6/21 while Joel Randall took four wickets of his own.
Brad Knowles singlehandedly dismantled the Imperials batting order with 6/5 and Leigh Jensen claimed the remaining four wickets for seven runs.
Raiders second innings was marginally more fruitful with 71 but another five ducks dampened their efforts.
Tom Coulson stood up again with three second innings wickets to take his total to nine for the game.
Play starts from noon on Saturday at Catterick Reserve.
Churchill v Traralgon West
Traralgon West was sent in to bat on day one of play against Churchill at the weekend and notched 162 from 72 overs.
Tim Fitch shone again with the bat for West and continued his cracking year, falling just short of a half-century with 49.
Ben Edebohls was next best with a knock of 38, closely followed by Matt Kirkham with 32.
Cobra Ryan Harvey took 3/13 including three maidens and John Keighran 3/16 including four maidens.
Churchill rounded out day’s play at 2/22 with Ben Kearns still at the crease who will be joined by gun batsman Jesse Giardina when play resumes.
Day two commences on Saturday at George Cain Oval from noon.
Gormandale v Toongabbie
Toongabbie won the toss and elected to bat on day one of the round three clash against Gormandale at the weekend and quickly slumped to 4/25.
The Rams consolidated and went on to bat out the day.
Rob Wheildon was in fine touch again and notched 72 not out while Daniel Neilson made 37 and Tom Shippen 26.
Gormandale’s Shaun Barbour was the pick of the bowlers and rounded out the innings with 6/51 and Brandon McDonald took three wickets of his own.
The Tigers batted for four overs before time was called on day one and sit at 1/2 with Brandon McDonald and Luke Henderson at the crease.
Play resumes from noon on Saturday at Stoddart Oval.
Glengarry v Ex Students
Reigning premier Ex Students took to the field against Glengarry in day one of round three action at the weekend and were in trouble at 5/77.
The Sharks lost the wickets of Lee Stockdale for 25 and Jordy Gilmore for 20 before a lower order resurgence put them back in the game.
Michael Stockdale notched a half century and stood up for the Sharks with 51 while Ric Battista saved the innings with a stellar 81 not out of his side’s 229.
Max Merton bowled exceptionally well for Glengarry and finished day’s play with 5/55 while Cameron Graham was the only other multiple wicket-taker with two including Jordy Gilmore.
Day two kicks off from noon on Saturday at Fred King Oval.
Rovers v CATS
CATS won the toss and sent Rovers in to bat on day one of round three action at the weekend, with international recruit Tinash Pangyangara taking 4/11.
Rovers were dismissed for a meagre 51 as Cal Stewart chipped in for CATS with 3/31.
CATS went in to bat and were hell-bent on a first innings lead and declared at 6/133.
Opener Jamie Cochrane’s 43 was the best for CATS while Rory Hare also made 31.
Rovers’ Todd Mann took 3/35 and Kev Stoddart took three wickets of his own for 46.
Early in its second innings the host sits at 2/25 after opener Obaid Syed was dismissed for six and Jack Lynch for a duck with Simon Duff and Ewan Williams at the crease.
Play resumes this Saturday from noon at Duncan Cameron Park.
