RUNNING
A number of Harriers, family members and friends ran over various distances at the Great Ocean Road Marathon carnival across the weekend of May 20.
Veteran Ian Twite ran his 14th Great Ocean marathon and has competed in every one since it began it 2005.
Accomplished Traralgon runner Anne Maloney was first in her age group in the half marathon while Tanjil South couple Alison Whiter and Des Paynter also ran the half marathon in excellent time while pushing young son Dylan in his stroller.
Many Harriers and other local runners building up for the approaching Traralgon marathon, half marathon and quarter marathon events on Sunday braved the bleak weather at last Thursday’s run around a six-kilometre town circuit.
A worthy handicap winner was young Harriers newcomer and Traralgon College student Josh Spowart ahead of Tom Irvine.
In real time he overtook Peter Sanders by a few seconds.
Third on handicap with the quickest outright time was Glenn Graham, one place ahead of wife Karen, who was third outright fastest on the night.
This week’s Harriers’ event on Thursday, May 31 is a six-kilometre run starting from the Liddiard Road Primary School with an intermediate three-kilometre run and a one-kilometre junior event. Early starters begin at 5.50pm and all walkers, runners and joggers are welcome.
