Lights up in Morwell

Christmas is coming early for Morwell this year, specifically this Friday when the Spirit of Christmas descends on the central business district.

Advance Morwell committee member Lauren Marks, who is one of the event organisers, said the free community event aimed to “light up Morwell” and “help everyone celebrate Christmas”.

“It is basically a free community event … for all ages and we’re basically wanting to put something on for the town that is free for everyone to come to,” she said.

“Some shop owners are lighting up and decorating their windows … we’re encouraging them to do so, but we don’t know how many have put lights and decorations up in their windows at this point.”

Ms Marks said Rotary was organising carols by candlelight entertainment and that Latrobe Streetgames would be at the event running games and sports.

“We’ve got fireworks, we’re really excited about it as feel it will be a really big drawcard,” she said.

“We’ve got a petting zoo, face-painting, henna tattoos…. something for everyone to participate in.

“We will also have food vendors.”
