CRICKET
Cricket fans across the Latrobe Valley have the opportunity to rub shoulders with legend Sir Ian Botham when the Big Bash League comes to town next week.
Botham will headline a legend’s luncheon at Ted Summerton Reserve on game day prior to hit off in the points clash between the Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers.
Tixstar will put on the event and chief executive Clint Hillas said the luncheon presented an “amazing opportunity” for cricket heads to hear from one of the best in the business.
“There are not many sirs when it comes to cricket and we’ve got one of them coming to town,” Hillas said.
“Ultimately the reason we wanted to bring him down is to offer the local community and local businesses in particular a luncheon as part of the game.”
Botham will be interviewed on stage by journalist Megan Hustwaite and open the floor to audiences with a question and answer session.
“We’re going to get some insights leading into the Ashes which will be really good,” Hillas said.
“He’ll give his thoughts on the Australian team and a bit about his past and what it was like playing in the ’80s.
“He’s got some unbelievable stories on his charity work – which is how he became a sir – and what he’s done is unbelievable.”
Post-luncheon, Botham will head across to the marquee to enjoy the blockbuster between the Stars and the Strikers.
“There is still [tickets] available and we’d love more of the local community and business community to sign up for the event,” Hillas said.
The legend’s luncheon with Sir Ian Botham will be held on Wednesday, January 23 from 12.30pm until 2.30pm at Ted Summerton Reserve.
Tickets for the legend’s luncheon are $175 per person which includes match ticket, luncheon, afternoon tea and drinks.
Guests will then make their way to a private marquee to watch the Stars v Strikers clash where drinks will be served throughout the match.
