Man injured in train collision

An elderly man was flown to The Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition after he was struck by a train near Moe station at about 2.30pm on Tuesday.

At the time of publication, the man, who is in his 80s, was in a stable condition, however, sustained serious leg injuries.

The man was crossing the train tracks on his mobility scooter at the time of the collision.

Police believe the scooter may have got stuck in the tracks and are not treating the incident as suspicious.

Coaches replaced V/Line train services between Warragul and Bairnsdale following the incident on Tuesday.

Sentencing delayed

The sentencing of a police officer who was charged with assaulting a person in custody has been adjourned.

Senior Constable Dallas Howell was charged with two counts of unlawful assault following an incident which took place in September 2017 at the Moe Police Station.

On March 7, Magistrate Ann Collins found Senior Constable Howell guilty of two counts of unlawful assault and set a date to deliver her sentencing on March 18.

However, the matter was adjourned and will return to court on Monday.
