Gippsland Water issued a precautionary boil water alert for Hernes Oak, Moe, Moe South, Newborough, Trafalgar East, Westbury, Yallourn, Yallourn Heights and Yallourn North on Saturday night due to a storm-related event at the Moe water treatment plant.
The alert is in place to minimise any risk to public health.
Gippsland Water cannot guarantee that reticulated water delivered to the affected towns fully meets Australian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines.
Gippsland Water, in consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services, recommends that, water should be brought to a rolling boil before being used for drinking, preparing beverages, washing and preparing food, preparing baby formula, brushing teeth or making ice until further notice.
To ensure water is safe for consumption:
Customers may notice discolouration and potentially fine solids in their drinking water supply while the alert is in place.
Gippsland Water is undertaking ongoing water quality testing and will provide further updates.
Unboiled water can be used for showering and bathing, flushing toilets, washing dishes and clothes and garden watering. Ensure water is not ingested while bathing. Where possible please minimise unessential water use.
