LRH fares well with patient satisfaction

LATROBE Regional Hospital has fared well in a State Government survey of patient satisfaction in Victorian hospitals.

State Health Minister David Davis recently released the Victorian Patient Satisfaction Monitor Annual Report for July 2011 to June 2012, which showed LRH scored 75.7 out of 100, placing it in the ‘good to very good’ range.

Mr Davis said Victorian public hospitals had “recorded significant increases in patient satisfaction” for the second year running, with more than half of all hospitals “achieving a ‘very good’ to ‘excellent’ rating.”

“Most importantly, no Victorian hospital showed a statistically significant decrease in patient satisfaction in 2011-2012 and no hospital received a ‘poor’ or ‘fair’ rating,” he added.

South Gippsland Hospital, with a score of 88.5, was among the highest rated in the state.

Mr Davis said in the voluntary survey patients could “highlight the positives about our public hospitals and point out areas for improvement”.”

“Based on the survey, the areas with the highest level of satisfaction were the courtesy of nurses and doctors, being treated with respect, personal safety and helpfulness of staff. Areas for improvement included quality of food, storage facilities, waiting room comfort, explanation of hospital procedures and restfulness of the hospital,” he said.

The minister said input from 4580 visitors to emergency departments found “most were satisfied with the level of privacy, care and safety”.
