Tie for pro-am honours

PROFESSIONALS Andrew Martin and Andrew Kelly tied at three under par to win the 2013 Massaro Motors – Suzuki Australia Pro-Am at Yallourn Golf Club last Monday.

Martin and Kelly made best use of the benign conditions to come away with a one shot win over a high quality field to secure the champion’s trophy.

Kelly’s round included four birdies and a solitary bogey while Martin posted five birdies and a costly double bogey on the 17th hole.

“The lowest score was 69 so no-one really tore up the course, which probably goes to show how good our course really is and how challenging it is,” club president Leigh Taylor said.

With almost 80 millimetres of rain falling in the six days prior to the event, Martin paid tribute to course superintendent Mark Burton for maintaining pristine conditions.

“It’s always a great event here at Yallourn and it is a credit to Mark and his staff for getting the course in such great condition after all the rain,” Martin said.

Victorian trainee Luke Hickman and Ryan Haywood finished in a tie for third place on two under 70.

PGA Tour star Jarrod Lyle made a successful return to tournament golf after overcoming a second bout of leukemia, carding an even par 72 to finish tied in 11th place.

Only 13 of 36 professionals were able to break par on the day.
