Blueprint for shire

THE need for the Latrobe Valley to regain its enthusiasm, confidence and a new direction is the driving force behind the development of a major strategy to guide the Shire of La Trobe’s future growth and development well into the next century.

To be known as the La Trobe Area Planning Study, the two-part strategy will be prepared by planning and economic consultants Henshall Hansen and Associates, headed by Ms Hansen.

Input from La Trobe shire residents will play an integral part in the development of the study.

“The views and ideas of La Trobe shire residents will be actively sought in our plans to bring together and showcase the many strengths of the region and to help secure a better and more prosperous future, particularly for families and young people,” La Trobe shire chief executive officer John Mitchell said.

According to Ms Hansen, the aim of the area planning study is to apply sound planning principles to underpin the economic and social growth of the shire by developing a blueprint to guide the shire’s growth and development.

Strategies for both the short-term (five years) and long-term (20 years) will be included in the study.

“So it really is time for this region to regain its enthusiasm and confidence in where it’s going. And this study is about providing it with the management tool and the framework within which to be able to do that,” she claimed.
