Telecom was trying to trace the cause of the breakdown when this issue went to press.

Farmers call for ‘fairer’ fuel prices
A FAIRER local petrol pricing system needs to be introduced if the Victorian Government wants to avoid ‘political fallout’.
That was the clear message sent out by the Victorian Farmers Federation President, Wally Shaw, following the organisation’s annual conference last week.
Mr Shaw served notice on the State Government to act on country petrol prices or suffer the political costs.
“The Coalition Government is committed to reform which will encourage competition between oil companies at the wholesale level, and not discriminate aginst customers on the basis of the geographical area in which they operate,” Mr Shaw said. “It is essential that the Coalition honors this commitment.”
Other issues identified by the VFF at its conference included excessive State diesel tax, rural health, planning and gun legislation.

opportunities for
Valley physicians
LATROBE Valley physicians will have the chance to strengthen their specialist skills thanks to a $1.1 million training boost from the State Government.
Health Minister Jill Hennessy announced the funding boost to the Royal Australian College of Physicians’ Dual Physician Training Program which will support rural physicians to undertake training in both metropolitan and rural Victoria.
From 2017, trainee physicians at Ballarat Health, Bendigo Health, Goulburn Valley Health and Latrobe Regional Hospital will receive support to undertake additional training in a specialty of their choice at metropolitan hospital on top of their regional general acute training.
This means that Latrobe Valley physicians can be trained in specialist medical skills to fill gaps that may exist in rural communities.
