LEARNING to last a lifetime.
Gippsland Trades and Labour Council was proud to celebrate its latest graduates who completed the ‘A Cup of Hospitality’ program.
The nine day course provides Gippslanders the opportunity to meet employers, learn employability skills and chat with people in the industry, all while working towards hospitality certificates.
For this round, 11 participants were enrolled for the A Cup of Hospitality program. The group participated in 28 activities over a nine day period, where they learned an array of skills including food handling, first aid and barista basics.
The 11 graduates had the opportunity to work alongside Morwell Rotary Club to put their skills into practice to support the Eat Up Program. This saw graduates preparing and packaging 750 cheese sandwiches for local schools in just one hour and 15 minutes, which Project Officer Kellie Bertrand described as “an outstanding effort” that allowed them to “give back to the community”.
A Cup of Hospitality has returned after a year-long break after further funding from the state government.
During a speech to the new graduates, Ms Bertrand mentioned the need for more accessible programs for people who are wanting to further their education after they received a number of applications for the program.
“(This) tells us that there is a real need for accessible training that meets people where they are, builds confidence and creates genuine pathways into employment and further education,” she said.
Graduates enjoyed a catered meal with each other, and community partners to celebrate another amazing program completion.
