TALENT LEAGUE
GIPPSLAND Power won its first AFL Talent League premiership since 2005 on Saturday.
At Whitten Oval, Melbourne, the Power trailed the Dandenong Stingrays by seven points at halftime, but dominated the second half, kicking 12 goals to five to win 16.10 (106) to 10.11 (71).
Cody Templeton (Warragul Industrials) and Wil Malady (Bairnsdale) kicked five goals each. Templeton also had 19 disposals to be named best-on-ground.
Maffra’s Jed Burgiel was also a major contributor, with 29 disposals.
Xavier Ladbrook (Nar Nar Goon) and Warragul pair Henry Allsop and Keenan Boi were also prominent.
Mirboo North’s Clancy Snell (nephew of Australian basketball legend, Belinda) captained the side.
Traralgon Football-Netball Club was well represented, with Levi Macumber, Marlon Neocleous and Blair Roscoe playing.
Fellow Maroon Kade Thorley and Morwell’s Goy Jiath were also part of the squad.
The premiership capped off a memorable debut season for head coach, Sale’s Kris Pendlebury. Younger brother, and AFL games record holder, Scott, was part of the previous Gippsland Power premiership team.
