GIPPSLAND Flippers gun swimmer Phil Blunt was back in the pool just two days after sitting his final VCE year 12 exam.
Competing at the Masters Victoria long distance shortcourse meet, the 18 year-old broke two national and two Victorian Masters records in the 18 to 24 years age group.
Blunt claimed the gold medal for the 400 metre butterfly in four minutes, 51.31 seconds, breaking the previous Australian record by 4.33 seconds in the process.
He went on to win gold in the 800m backstroke in a time of 10.08.89, eclipsing the national record by an incredible 51.86 seconds.
The aquaman joined the Flippers Masters club about six months ago, and trains with the group twice weekly at their Sunday and Wednesday sessions.
Blunt made the switch to Masters swimming for its social appeal and the club is encouraging others to follow his lead at a free ‘come and try’ coaching session to anyone over 18 who has basic swimming capabilities on Sunday 8 December at Morwell Leisure Centre.
The session will run from 10am until 11.30am, with a barbecue lunch afterwards.
