THE Traralgon and District Cricket Association’s Twenty20 opener played to big crowds on Sunday in a series of close encounters.
The match of the day saw Ex Students, bolstered by “ring in” batsman Matt Bremner, edge past Gormandale.
Bremner second top scored with 20, behind Rory Hare’s 23, as Ex Students made 87 on a difficult Stoddart Oval pitch.
Stuart Anderson snared 3/5 and Adam Brady 3/18 in a damaging bowling partnership.
Gormandale batted poorly in the absence of Adrian Burgiel and was dismissed for 59.
Michael Warne, Lee Stockdale and Hare took two wickets each.
Imperials played out a thriller against Traralgon West, getting home with one ball to spare.
The West batted first and made 128 before Imps scampered home seven wickets down.
Brendan McGregor top scored with 55, while Jon Bell (30) and Rob McGregor (31*) did well for Traralgon West.
Jim Chalmers claimed 3/22 for Imps.
CATS batted first against Toongabbie and made a useful 4/126 on the back of 30 from Jamie Cochrane.
In reply Toongabbie never got started and was dismissed for 71.
Conor Sloyan 3/14, Barney Webber 3/12 and Corbin Sutherland 3/19 tore through the hapless Toongabbie card.
In a TDCA T20 first Glengarry and Centrals played out a thrilling tie, with each team posting 90.
Ben Julin top scored for the Magpies with 30, balanced by Corey Pollard’s 3/7.
Dean Rode’s 17 was best for Centrals in the face of Ryan Delaney’s spell of 3/12.
Churchill remains undefeated in all forms after a thumping win against Raiders.
Batting first the Cobras smashed 8/152. Ben Kearns lifted his season aggregate to more than 400 runs with 78, while Raiders captain Brad Knowles was at his fast and furious best with 4/23.
In reply Raiders could manage only 101 as the returning Dan McKenna (4/16) and captain John Keighran (3/17) shared the spoils.

Churchill v Ex Students
CHURCHILL has plenty of runs to play with after posting 253 against the reigning premiers.
Despite the deficit Ex Students will approach the run chase with confidence; Lee Stockdale is due to make a big score and Greg Munro will be eager to make an impact.
Rory Hare, Rick Battista and Jordy Gilmour are all capable of winning the game off their own bat.
John Keighran will lead the bowling effort in a bid to maintain the impervious Cobras’ perfect record.
Gormandale v Centrals
RESUMING at 6/56, Centrals will need Jarrod Allan to turn in a man of the match performance and reel in the remaining 114 runs required to win.
Stuart Anderson, Shaun Barbour and Adam Brady will look to tear through the tail to take the points.
Raiders v Toongabbie
NEEDING 233 to win Raiders will be battling hard to bat all day.
Brad Knowles holds the key and a big century could turn the tide.
Toongabbie spearhead Tom Shippen is a class bowler and will prove a handful.
Glengarry v Traralgon West
WITH just over 100 to win and nine wickets in hand Glengarry should win handsomely against Traralgon West.
The Magpies will look to nest at the crease all day and knock some form into their batsmen.
