MIRBOO North was back to its winning ways against Yallourn North this week in Central Gippsland cricket, with smaller contributions from a number of batsmen getting them home.
Ben Heath’s 35 was the highest score of the innings as the Tigers reached 226; Jeremy Butler’s 5/70 was not enough to stave off defeat.
Rob Phoenix, Hudson Kerr, Brad Grima and Dale Banks all chipped in to nab a win by just two wickets after being in some trouble at 5/109. Josh Keyhoe nabbed 2/10 at the end of the innings to finish the game on a positive note for the Bombers.
Thorpdale crumbled for 115 against Moe, giving the Lions a much-needed win to put them in contention for a finals berth after the Christmas break.
Aaron Walshe took 3/12 to set the game up, with great support from Jayden Mathison, Andrew Philip and Mubtasim Murshed, who each took two wickets.
Steve Hibbs’ 14 was the best of the innings as extras made up the top score with 24.
The Blues were then sent back in to bowl and leaked runs as the Lions compiled 7/181 in just 37 overs in their second dig.
Dale Walshe made 61 and Chris Payne 48 as they flayed the bowling to all parts.
Latrobe eased to the victory target of 130 against Morwell and the win propelled the Sharks to second on the ladder ahead of Yallourn North. Blake Mills removed Tim Cranwell to leave the home side at 4/94 but Justin Vajler helped Kaushik Aphale steer Latrobe across the finish line. Aphale finally fell for 65 after being given three lives, while Michael Duncan made a late dash with 37.
Captain Craig Giddens was the Tigers’ best with 3/21.
In its second innings Morwell reached 6/130 after Ash Halkett’s 3/26 wobbled the top order but Kris Fortuin (39) and Brendan Brincat (34) consolidated.
Matches were completed yesterday after making way for the Bush Bash on Saturday.
