Funding for clubs

THE Yallourn North Bowling Club will soon be able to construct a synthetic green after receiving a $100,000 State Government grant.

The green will replace the club’s existing pitch, saving it up to $25,000 a year in maintenance costs and allowing the season to be extended.

“It saves us a lot of work; all our members are getting older,” president Anne Compelman said.

“You can play on it all year round because you don’t have to worry about the rain.”

The club hopes the upgrade will attract new members.

Traralgon’s Harold Preston Reserve has also attracted funding.

Of the funding, $40,000 will be put towards the installation of drainage at one of the ground’s soccer fields.

Latrobe City mayor Sandy Kam said both projects would “lead to significantly improved facilities for patrons and the wider community”.
