ALP announces Gippsland candidate

A FIVE-time paralympian will contest the Federal seat of Gippsland for the Australian Labor Party at the next election.

Jeff McNeill, a local farmer, business manager and East Gippsland Shire Councillor, was endorsed late last week by the ALP and will contest the safe National Party seat currently held by Darren Chester.

A statement issued on Mr McNeill’s behalf by the ALP said the candidate, who lost his sight at a young age, was “no stranger to big challenges” and was “passionate about a fair for all Gippslanders”.

“We need to invest in our people, make sure our children have a quality education, make sure our hospitals are properly funded and that we have a world class national broadband network for our future propserity,” Mr McNeill said.
