Morwell’s unemployment rate is now the lowest it has been for years, according to recently released jobless figures.
June 2013 quarter small area labour market figures released on Friday by the Federal Government showed the jobless rate in Morwell and Moe had fallen by 0.7 per cent between the end of March 2013 and June 2013, to 7.5 and 7.2 per cent respectively.
Traralgon’s unemployment rate continues to sit below the state average, also dropping from 4.3 to 4.1 per cent.
The statistics table dates back to March 2008, when Morwell’s jobless rate was 10.2 per cent – it is now lower than at any time since then, steadily dropping over past months.
The last time Moe’s rate was as low as 7.2 per cent was in December 2011.
In March 2008 it was 9.7 per cent.
The overall Latrobe Valley rate, as at June 2013, was 5.6 per cent, lower than it has been in more than four years.
