Consultation extension denied

Residents within the Lake Narracan Precinct Structure Plan did not have their wish grated for an extension of the consultation period, which ended last Friday.

Latrobe City Council decided to note the petition it received, which called for an extension to a 27 February deadline, but not to take further action.

Councillor Sandy Kam, who opposed simply noting the petition, said the community deserved the right to be able to understand the project.

However, Cr Graeme Middlemiss said given the plan may be changed so much, there was “little point” having further consultation.

“Let’s see what the reaction is to the new proposal,” Cr Middlemiss said.

Council’s planning and economic sustainability general manager Phil Stone stressed this was not the end of consultation on the project altogether.

“We’ll be seeking consultation on this project for many years to come – this isn’t the last chance the community will get to have their say,” Mr Stone said.

Resident Trixie Kowal said the landowners were not given enough time to read all the documents.

Ms Kowal said she and others felt that their rights were being ignored.
