Latrobe City passes on Walhalla meeting

Latrobe City Council decided it would not enter into discussions with Baw Baw Shire regarding Walhalla’s potential move to within the city’s boundaries.

Councillor Christine Sindt proposed council engage Baw Baw Shire to discuss the “annexation of Erica, Rawson and Walhalla” at Monday night’s meeting.

However, Cr Sindt’s motion failed to gain support.

Councillors did not voice any opposition to Walhalla and district becoming part of Latrobe City, but said there was a process to go through and this was not the first part of it.

“We’re one step ahead, we need to go back,” Cr Graeme Middlemiss said.

Cr Peter Gibbons said as any change to the local government boundaries was the State Government’s decision, council should not step in and have conversations with Baw Baw at this time.
