The re-opening of the Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry would probably not start until the end of the fire season, Premier Daniel Andrews said last week.
Mr Andrews said early work was underway, but the state’s priority was the current fire season.
“In the middle of a very busy fire season, in the middle of what’s going to be a very long, hot, dry dangerous fire season that’s come a little earlier than we’ve seen for many, many years when so much of the state is cured and ready to burn, sadly, many of the people who would need to be involved in that recalled Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry are very busy,” Mr Andrews said.
He said preparation was underway for a fast start to the re-opening once the fire season was over.
The government has allocated $1.5 million to re-open the inquiry, following an election promise.
