A MORWELL family woke to a frightening scene when would-be arsonists attempted to light their caravan on fire on Friday morning.
About 3am Friday, a caravan in the driveway of a Savige Street property was almost set alight by an unknown number of offenders.
Latrobe Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Lauren Swan said an accelerant was poured around the caravan by the offenders, but their efforts to light it were stifled when an occupant inside the van woke and scared them off.
Det Snr Const Swan said the unknown number of offenders quickly drove away from the property in an older model Holden Commodore towards Vary Street.
