Police to burn cannabis almost 500 cannabis plants

Almost 500 cannabis plants currently rotting in the evidence room of Wonthaggi Police Station will be destroyed shortly.

Two-hundred-and-ninety-seven plants were seized at a property in Yarram in November and 202 plants were seized at a property in South Dudley in October following search warrants.

Wonthaggi police constable Fiona Harris appeared at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday requesting permission for the plants to be destroyed.

Yarram woman My Hanh Tong, 25, was arrested in November in relation to the search warrant executed in Yarram and was charged with cultivating, trafficking and possessing cannabis and stealing $14,000 worth of electricity from Ausnet Services.

Three others were co-accused in the matter.

Tong faced Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and has had her bail extended until 2 April, 2015 when she will appear again.
