The churning of the printing press, stacking of bundles and hurried typing of eager journalists will bring back memories for hundreds of former Latrobe Valley Express employees.
Since 1965 The Express has been committed to delivering the news to the community, and this year it will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
This significant event will be commemorated throughout the year with a weekly ‘flashback column’, a special 50th anniversary logo, a staff reunion and a gallery exhibition.
Express general manager Bruce Ellen said while many other newspapers had celebrated milestones far greater than 50 years, this anniversary was unique as most contributors to the publication’s success were still alive.
“It’s a fairly unique opportunity to get people from the whole history to come together,” Mr Ellen said.
The Express is searching for any past employee to join its festivities and reminisce with former co-workers.
“We are inviting all who have played a role in producing the newspaper to reconnect with past co-workers at a reunion in July,” Mr Ellen said.
“It would be great to catch up with people who have been part of the company over the past 50 years.”
