Help tackle prostate cancer with big blokes BBQ

The third annual Latrobe’s Biggest Ever Blokes BBQ will be held on Friday, 22 May at Kernot Hall, Morwell from 11am to 4.30pm with a variety of speakers.

Guests include Sam Kekovich, Kevin Sheedy and Melbourne Cup winning jockey Malcolm Johnston.

Tables of 10 are $1100, which includes pre-lunch snacks, lunch, afternoon tea, beverages and an afternoon packed with entertainment.

Raffles, auctions, door prizes and the popular ‘winner takes all’ table draw will also feature during the day.

“The previous two events have been sold out, so we encourage everyone to get a table of mates together early to enjoy a great day out,” committee chair Ian Nethercote said.

Proceeds from the day are donated to help raise awareness levels and fund research into prostate cancer issues particular to Latrobe Valley.

Funds have also been allocated to supporting local prostate support services.

“The Gippsland region has a mortality rate from prostate cancer which is almost 30 per cent higher than our city counterparts,” Mr Nethercote said.

“The Latrobe event has funded research to find out why, and raised awareness of this disease for local men.

“With the support of local businesses, both as sponsors and attendees on the day, each event has raised more than $100,000 to support the fight against prostate cancer.”

Table bookings for this year’s event are now open.
