Morwell residents in a large section of the town’s north-east have been advised to boil tap water as a precautionary measure after a mains rupture at the weekend.
Gippsland Water issued the water alert on Wednesday afternoon, instructing affected residents to boil their water for drinking and food preparation purposes.
“While tests over recent days have been compliant with Drinking Water Standards we are issuing this alert as a precautionary measure,” Gippsland Water managing director David Mawer said.
The affected area is roughly defined by the Princes Highway in the south, Old Melbourne Road in the north, Latrobe Road in the west and Vary Street in the east.
To see if you live within the affected area visit www.gippswater.com.au or for more information phone Gippsland Water’s 24 hour Service Centre on 1800 057 057.
Customers in the identified area have been advised against using or consuming un-boiled tap water from this source until given further notice by Gippsland Water.
“The existing disinfection system could not be fully relied on at the moment and an update will be issued as soon as more information becomes available.”
