SENSIBLE and achievable improvements to the Gippsland public transportation network have been called for the development of the Regional Network Development Plan.
It follows Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan’s announcement on Friday to form a Regional Transport Advisory Group that would drive community consultation sessions to provide recommendations to the plan’s development. The group will be co-chaired by Northern Victoria Member Jaclyn Symes and Gippsland Regional Development Committee chair Richard Elkington, with representation from all major regional cities.
Public Transport Users Association regional spokesman Paul Wescott said issues such as the single track “bottleneck” section between Bunyip and Longwarry on the Gippsland train line, were among the simple measures to be considered.
“There are simple fixes that need to be campaigned for, they are much more achievable, but don’t get many headlines,” Mr Wescott said.
Sessions will be held in the Gippsland region between 23 and 26 June and 13 and 14 July.
