GDF SUEZ Hazelwood says it is investigating the cause of a small spill of saline water at the power station this afternoon.
“The saline, or salty water, overflowed from a power station recirculation pond, making its way into the station’s effluent pond where it mixed with other run-off from the site,” a statement read.
“Routine water testing at the power station will monitor water quality but minimal impact, if any, is expected at the discharge point, Hazelwood pondage.
“The incident was promptly attended to and managed by power station operators who blocked the overflow.”
The company said the Environment Protection Authority had been advised of the incident through the business notification process.
