Gippsland Football Club commenced training for its female development squad last Friday at Trafalgar Soccer Club.
The region’s junior representative outfit has made a concerted push to offer the same opportunities to girls as its existing boys pathway.
“We want to work in partnership with the Latrobe Valley Soccer League and Gippsland Soccer League to grow the participation of girls and increase their opportunities,” a club spokesperson said.
“Gippsland FC has deliberately chosen to go down the path of development squads, as opposed to entering teams into metro leagues like the boys, so that the local girls’ game can continue to strengthen its base.”
The program has been designed so as not to interfere with the girls’ home club commitments.
Gippsland FC invites girls or their coaches to express interest in joining the development squad.
